Welcome to The Real World

Some days ago I had a phone call from a friend, its should be a discussion about some works he had to do but somehow some why he started to rant about his problem in his new office.

He told me about his job that’s way far from the written job desc. He said his boss ordered him to drive him around to meet some people. My friend complained that he was not a driver, and there was a driver and he couldn’t understand what made his boss thought of using him instead of the driver.

Than he told me about his other boss from other department. He ordered my friend to do the marketing job, going to one place to another to meet clients but there were some marketers on the office who were playing poker on their facebook. He tried to get off but he got scolded anyway.

And his story kept going and going, and I’ll cut down here because I think you can guess what the rest are.

Actually from the beginning, I spotted some problem in his office such as lack of leadership and professionalism.  Once I talked to him about it but I have never tried get him understand those, because those two I believe are the most common problem in any office. I believe half of the people who read this post have at least one of those in their office or organization.

That time instead of telling him good things and motivating words, I preferred to say

Welcome to the real world

That time he got confuse and could not get what it meaned. Right now I heard he is preparing to leave the office. I don’t think that’s wrong, but if he can not get the words I say in bold form above, I think wherever he goes, he might keep finding the same problems.

I know its hard to make young guys, the fresh graduate, or the new comer, to understand something with just a sentence like that. I found it hard when someone told me those words almost a decade ago. So what do you think? Do you agree that its ok to say those words? Or perhaps you have better alternatives in welcoming them to reality ;))

jd driver khan enak..keliling2x doank hehhe

ntar dah setahun, keluar aja. cari perusahaan yg bonafide.

That’s understandable, most of young fresh graduates are somewhat naive, and we’ve all been in that position too. Doesn’t matter if your company is “bonafide” or not, it’s like that anywhere, when you’re a new comer and you’re a fresh graduate, then you are the underdog.

If the reason of him getting another job is because he gets a better opportunity, that’s fine. But if he quit bcus he wants to runaway from the situation at his current office, I think he’s making a false decision. He should have learned to manage the problem, and if he feels that his capability is more than just being his boss driver, then he should have given it some time to prove it to the boss.

actually I was more eager to find out how he would act and manage his problems. His boss actually was kind of a fresh graduate too, so it should be an interesting case… fresh leads a fresh in the jungle, hehehe. So I was a little bit disappointed when he resigned.

I think it doesn’t matter with the jobs he got from his bosses..
He got those jobs because they trust him to serve them..
At least, he can get their attention, and who knows he could be promoted by his boss..

I’m a webmaster, but my boss asks me to go travelling. Why not ? :P
Selama masih do-able, I think it’s ok. Kecuali kalau sudah ga enjoy dan parah banget, he better finds another job..
